Rose Hill Cem. James married Ellen (Eleanor) Hoffman 4 Feb 1844 in Albany, Whiteside, Il.
Note:
James was a River Boat Captain on the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers. His son Ebeneezer at 15 years old helped him. They were ferrying some clydsdale horses one time and a Stallion broke his leg. The owner wanted to shoot the horse and James wouldn't let him. He pulled up to the river band and put Ebeneezer off with the horse and Ebeneezer took care of the horse and it got all right. Then Ebeneezer went back to Albany, Illinois with the horse and after this they decided to go to Iowa and raise horses now that they had this well bred Stallion. They moved to Iowa and raised horses.
